Chief Instructor:
Erik Mann, 6th Dan

Instructor
Mr. Mann, age 44, began his formal Karate training in 1980 with Mike Brown's Tae Kwon Do while attending Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas. He trained for 3 yrs with Mr. Brown, from 1980-1983, often staying in Arkansas during summer breaks to continue his training. Mr. Mann's training with Mr. Brown was unfortunately cut short in the summer of 1983, one week before his red belt test (the last belt before black), due to a near tragic motorcycle wreck, in Jacksonville, AR. Barely avoiding the amputation of one leg, and incurring damage to his back, his martial arts training was sidelined for several years. Shortly after the accident, and partly due to complications from those injuries, Mr. Mann moved back to his hometown of Dallas, and eventually earned his BBA in Marketing from the University of North Texas in Denton, TX.

Our Style
Quick and effective adult-only martial arts instruction for Dallas residents. We do not offer classes at this time to anyone under the age of 18! Our goal is to get-you-in-shape, teach you street-effective self defense in a safe environment using the best techniques from several styles. We excel in helping those who feel they are out-of-shape, unathletic, older adults, those with handicaps, injuries, or physical limitations, quickly and effectively learn how to defend themselves. As of Summer 2006, our average student age was 35 yrs old, and 50% of our students were over that age. We take additional pride in the high adult retention rate we're able to maintain compared to most schools. We believe the numbers speak for themselves, and are a testament that our unique approach not only works, but makes martial arts realistic for adult beginners no matter their age or physical condition!

There are many factors to consider when choosing a martial arts school. Some people may want to learn a kicking art, others may not be that interested in kicks, or have limitations that make lots of head-high kicks too difficult for them. Others may want something more hands-oriented as a backup to kicking, should they one day not be able to kick. In addition to exploring how much kicking each adult can-or-can't-do, and thus tailoring individual styles of fighting around that, our hand-oriented techniques are fast and devastating, often flowing from strikes into locks, takedowns/throws, and chokes, for controlling and finishing moves. Our own adult students, many which came from other styles/schools they weren't satisfied with, tell us our program is one of the most complete they've ever seen, and makes the most sense!

About Us
In most schools the odds ARE AGAINST YOU, regarding your chances of achieving your self-defense and/or martial arts dreams. Many schools drag-out your training, by focusing the second you walk-in the door, on teaching skills that take years to become effective at. I'm convinced many schools intentionally do that, along with leaving out certain exercises and techniques that will speed up your progress, just so you'll hand them a check EVERY month for as long as possible! I believe most students quit within their first 6 months because they either recognize all this, or because they simply wanted to learn how to effectively defend themselves in a much shorter amount of time. In my school there are (2) types of training. The first focuses on teaching students to quickly become effective in defending themselves in the street. It primarily focuses on techniques anyone can do! The second type of training is more long-term and for those who want to take their skills to an even higher level. The reason for this type of approach? There are skills anyone can become great at quickly, then there are skills that typically take a couple of years to become great at. Most schools focus on the latter, thus putting a students well-being at risk, should they run into a street situation before long-term proficiency is achieved! We believe our simultaneous short-term/long-term training approach provides "A Better Way of Self-Defense".
