History of ISC
Control Points
Martial artists have been
using “pressure points” as far back as anyone can remember. The purpose
of these pressure points were numerous including distractions,
immobilizing, causing submission and possibly inflicting death. Modern
law enforcement became interested in using these “control points” to
assist in the control and arrest of resistant criminals. However, they
were concerned about the relative effectiveness of the points selected,
using excessive force, doing permanent damage, and exposing themselves
to litigation all at the same time.
The ISC Control Point program
was the result of these and other concerns about using and training with
“pressure points.” A group of martial arts experts, law enforcement
professionals and medical specialists teamed up to research the
“pressure points” being used in the martial arts and law enforcement
communities and selected those that took into account the needs of
modern law enforcement. Dr. Les Knight, author and Fellow of the
American College of Sport Medicine, leading sports specialist and
trainer, martial artist and law enforcement trainer headed the team.
Other team members included Dr. Susan Aull and Dr. Winston Morris pain
management specialists, Professor Ron Kazoroski a former police chief,
law enforcement trainer and martial arts master and Dr. Nicholas La
Carrubba an acupuncture specialist. In addition, input from other
medical, law enforcement and martial arts professionals added to the
quality of the final product. With hundreds of locations to pick from,
16 control points were selected. The decision to choose these locations
was based on:
-
Simplicity & ease of application
-
Effectiveness and reliability
-
Minimum risk of permanent injury to subject
-
Minimum risk to user
What the “ISC
Control Points Program” is not.
ISC Control Points is not a
quickie self-defense program. Many programs out there are trying to
mislead the public into thinking that they can learn to defend
themselves in short programs without any future practice. This program
is presented to individuals who recognize the need for practice to
maintain the effectiveness of these tools. Hands on training is a
perishable skill and must be practiced periodically to maintain their
effectiveness. Any other claims would be disingenuous, misleading and
dishonest. With the proliferation of “hybrid” self defense programs,
many using “pressure points,” there is a real risk of injury and
lawsuits and an even greater need for a medically documented program.
Benefits of ISC Control Point
Program Certification
- Additional prestige of having been
certified in a “state of the art” “medically documented” control point
program created by a professional team of medical, law enforcement and
martial arts experts.
- As an instructor, you will have a better
understanding of how “control points/ pressure points” work and
improve their usefulness to you as a martial artist.
- Eliminate the danger and potential liability
of your students practicing pressure points that could cause serious
injury to the nervous system or permanently injure the body.
- ISC Control Points takes into account the
“Force Matrix,” a set of guidelines, which governs the use of force by
both the police and the general public.
- “Control Points” do not eliminate the
need for martial arts or control techniques, they compliment them.
This material will compliment any martial art you teach with carefully
researched and effective techniques and strategies.
- Expand the market potential for your
knowledge to parts of the private sector.
The Market
As certified instructors, the
market for this professional program is great. The potential market
includes but is not restricted to:
- Anyone involved in the martial arts,
possibly included in testing
- Law enforcement professionals and the
military
- Private security professionals, body guards
& night club security.
- Selected “control points” can be included in
self-defense programs for women, business professionals etc.
