He is a fervent believer in giving all Martial Artists an opportunity to excel in their endevours, and he has commited himself to the task of creating and organising an Association of Masters who feel and talk with the same fervor. As the Administrator Officer for this Organisation, he will be actively seeking and researching new grounds of activities and events within the group, and he will actively promoting and developing  a fine approach to ALL Martial Artists worldwide.

About Us
The Ken Yu Kan Goju Ryu Karate Academy was established in Sydney, Australia in 1973, under the direction of Sensei Alexander de Araya, Kaicho 8th Dan Goju Ryu karate, 5th Dan Kobudo, 2nd Dan Aikijutsu. Sensei started his Martial studies in 1964 in Goju Kai Karate Do, under the guidance of Sensei E Ramirez who was at the time the only Goju Ryu practitioner from Latin America, trained and graded by Gogen Yamaguchi Hanshi at the Goju Kai Karate College in Tokyo, Japan. Later he (Sensei Ramirez) went onto become Morio Higaona's representative for the whole of the Americas for the IOGKF and Sensei de Araya also took a turn to Okinawa Goju Ryu late in 1980. In the year 2000 while staying in China he also studied Tig-wa (oldest form of Goju Ryu) under Shifu Ming Kau Lai.

During the course of 42 years now, Sensei have had the pleasure and the ability to train under many of the most senior Sensei in the Goju Ryu world, including M. Higaona, G Yamaguchi, M Nakayima, K Kuniyuki, K Nakamura and several of Shimpo Matayoshi's top students, and has kept credit to all those who helped him achieve the position he holds
today.

The Academy opened it's doors  to offer both, the wisdom and the knowledge necessary to survive today's violent behaviours, and together with  the skills of combat, we also acquire the mental attitude, the fitness and the strength required to succeed, and more importantly, to preserve the origins of this noble art.      Our school combines the best aspects of Japanese and Okinawan Goju Ryu, Okinawa  Kobudo and Aikijutsu and thanks to Sensei's research and expertise, we are now able to merge these systems into one formidable weapon. Sensei believes the Art of Karate-do alone is not enough to develop  good all around combat skills, that's why the system incorporates the study of Okinawa weapons of self defence, and close combat techniques at short range, armed and unarmed. As you know, White Crane Gong Fu and Goju  Ryu Karate techniques, were especially designed for close combat, therefore, they are  easily applied in real combat situations.

In our School, we dedicate some of the time to  study anatomy, pressure points, psychology, pathological behaviours etc, as it is very important  for a karate student to understand these things, rather than just learning to kick and punch, and the same goes for the importance of reassessing our own self-importance, and position in society. Karate is not a "empty basket" dedicated only to the pursue of fame and perhaps even wealth, in the name of a so called
martial art. Karate is a way of life, although many have chosen the path of glory rather than the path of enriching other people's lives.

Our style blends several arts, in a very specific, realistic manner, and according to "realistic" situations. Whereas some styles and other schools insist on "line dancing", we create appropriate scenarios to practise with, and these will be dealt with emphasis and proper technique.  Sensei believes in the essence of a well performed Kata, and in the Bunkai analysis, but will not dwell in performance without a serious application in real time. If you are joining a Karate School so that you can learn how to "defend" yourself, then you better teach them how to do so.

In our School, we maintain a balanced structure and a solid method of teaching, without going beyond people's understanding. As we all know, not two persons will be equally set up to endure the work, the reality, the commitment and the hardship required for serious learning, and for those who are not ready to endure, we help twice as much as anybody else, and God forbid...questions ARE allowed! Karate in our School is strong but acceptable, firm but lighthearted, disciplined but open, equal to any other in the Martial Arts circles, but most importantly, it's fair for all and guaranteed to make you a better person and a very confident one.

The "advanced" learning of Karate should also involve research and understanding, and one must not blindly follow this or that Master because HE says he is the only one, or because HE thinks he knows what's better for you. There are many avenues for people to follow. Kaicho has been deeply involved in the development of our karate, and that has taken him to many places and has trained with many people, especially in Japan and Okinawa. The proof is:- the many champions, our affiliated Sensei whom have chosen him as their tutor and guide, and their many students, and truly magnificent people whom after more than 35 years since he started teaching, still all him Sensei.

Our school is not about making money, and we do not pursue any materialistic gains from our teachings. We do not sell or promise anything until the student, or the Instructor has proven and earned his/her medals. You have to give to receive. We do not claim to be the best at anything, but we have an open door policy, where anybody can come in and see for themselves. If what you see does not suit you, all you do is turn back and walk away, no questions asked.
