Karate was founded in 2007 by Adam DiStefano.
Master DiStefano is an Internationally Certified
Chief Master Instructor by the Great Grandmaster
Aaron Banks and the World Professional Martial
Arts Organization. His passion for improving
physical fitness, mental discipline, and
spiritual strength is apparent in every class he
teaches. Master DiStefano has been a positive
influence in the lives of many. His ability to
reach children and adults alike has earned NYKA
Karate a reputation as the Dutchess County’s
best martial arts studio.
Master
DiStefano has been involved with martial arts
his entire life. As a child, he was taught
the fundamentals of Tang Soo Do by his
instructors, Masters Henry Seo and Joe Seo. In
his early teens, Master DiStefano earned his
Black Belt in both Tang Soo Do and Taekwondo. It
was at this time that he knew that he wanted to
dedicate his life to martial arts. Since that
time, Master DiStefano has proved to be a
fierce competitor winning many competitions on a
national and world level. He believes in a
principled approach to martial arts, that
includes the development of personal character
as well as physical strength. His focus on
respect, confidence, righteousness, discipline,
and vision has made him one of the most sought
after martial arts instructors in the Mid-Hudson
Valley.
Master
DiStefano has had the luxury of learning from
the best in the industry. His instructors
include Grandmaster Taejoon Lee, Tony Blauer,
Jim Wagner, Grandmaster Jerry "Fastfeet"
Fontanez, and Punong Guro Tom Bolden.

In September of 2009, Master DiStefano was
awarded the right to teach and name his own
system of martial arts. Because Master DiStefano
has a very diverse background, he developed a
system based on an understanding of anatomy and
body Mechanics, natural human response,
psychology and physiology, and a set of free
flowing principles that removes the rigidity
found in most traditional karate systems. In
essence, his stylist a hybrid and functional
version of martial artsthat is both “street
ready” and easy to perform under high stress.
Currently, Master DiStefano works in the private
sector in the High Threat Level Security field
as well as a Defensive Tactics Instructor. He is
also is a Peak Performance Coach and a
Children’s Success Conditioning Coach.
Master DiStefano attended the University at
Albany. He majored in Political Science. His
wife Jeanine is a Special Education Teacher in
the Beacon City School District. In May of 2011,
the welcomed the birth of their son, Marcello
Anthony.
