Seattle Aikikai

Chief Instructor: Bruce Bookman - 6th Dan
Bruce Bookman-Sensei
Bookman Sensei is a 6th degree black belt and Chief Instructor of the
Seattle Aikikai. He began studying Aikido at age 12, under the direction of Yoshimitsu
Yamada of the New York Aikikai. Captivated by the art, he became a black belt at the
unusually young age of 15. He travelled with his teacher to seminars and demonstrations
throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico.
In 1978, Bookman Sensei
continued his study at Hombu Dojo, Aikido World Headquarters, in Tokyo, Japan. He took
instruction from K. Ueshiba Doshu, the son of the founder, and from T.K. Chiba Shihan. In
1980, Bookman Sensei moved to Seattle, Washington, and founded the Seattle Aikikai. His
skills as both a practitioner and a teacher are highly acclaimed.
"Aikido is the art of slowly peeling away the buffers that keep us from
staying in touch with our natural abilities." -Bookman Sensei
