Dave Rogers Sensei U.S. Representative Ellis Schools-Albuquerque, NM Training: since 1986. Student of Henry Ellis Sensei, Derek Eastman Sensei, David Warne Sensei and Keith Webb Sensei. Other martial arts training inAmerican Kenpo Karate,  Shotokan Karate, ELFS.    Beginning student of Kenjutsu - student of Bryan Godfrey Sensei. Friend and member of the Sandia Budokan, Albuquerque. Our school motto is "Grace, Power and Tradition." I believe all martial artists share in the spirit of these words. There can't be many better measuring sticks than to ask yourself if you meet the criteria of this  motto in your life.  Every one of us should push to contribute something, to carry some kind of tradition forward to our children and grand-children. We should do this thing with strength, determination and intention. Lastly, if we can't pass through this world in total peace - we can at least manage a little bit of grace with everyone and everything we meet in this world.

Paul Emel Sensei, student of Dave Rogers Sensei since 1996, became the 13th Black Belt in the Ellis Schools, and now is the chief instructor of the Alamogordo branch.

History of our School
Dave Rogers was a sergeant at Greenham Common, and was involved in many outside activities. His main activity outside the base was at Basingstoke U.K., where he and his friend, Al Montemar, attended classes with the students and teachers under the direction of Henry Ellis and Derek Eastman Sensei. These two teachers were already legendary in Britain as two of the people in the earliest Aikido class on record in the U.K. This was at "The Hut," a small martial arts school operated by Kenshiro Abbe Sensei, and formally known as the "Abbe School of Budo."

More than 45 years later, the second "Hut" was opened in Alamogordo, NM  on U.S. Highway 70 in an old adobe brick-making factory. Naming the place "The Hut" on the day of their first practice, in memory of the place and people which began Aikido in Britain, the practices were merciless. With indoor temperatures reaching 115 degrees in the summer, and dropping below the freezing point in the winter, the American version of "The Hut" was a good follow-on to its British roots.

Dave Rogers Sensei has since moved to Albuquerque. Now a Beginning student of Kenjutsu, student of Sensei Godfrey. Friend and member of the Sandia Budokan.
