Career Highlights and Innovation::
Spanning more than 40 years of international
martial arts leadership and experience; 27 years
of professional military service, and small
business ownership. Master Phillip J. Wargo is a
7th Degree Black Belt with the American
Taekwondo Association (ATA)and the designated
ATA Ambassador of Government Affairs. He is an
International Master Instructor and
International Referee with the World Taekwondo
Federation (WTF), and participated in the 24th
Olympic games in Seoul Korea as the U.S.
representitive on the WTF Evaluation Board.
Master Wargo is the only duel rated Master with
the ATA and WTF in the United States.
Experience: Entered martial arts instruction in
the early 1960's teaching MooDukKwan Taekwondo at
Sigwards Sports Academy under Grand Master
Richard Chun in New York City. As a member of
the United States Army since 1965 he rose to
rank of Colonel. During his military career he
taught Taekwondo and other martial arts to U.S.
Army Special Forces, Ranger, Airborne, Infantry
and Armor Units, including hundreds of U.S.
allied officers from eight foreign countries. He
has operated and established many Taekwondo
schools at various military installations across
the United States, Republic of Korea, Vietnam,
and Europe. His first Taekwondo school was on a
military base at the Youngsan post in Seoul,
Korea in 1965. He started the first American
Taekwondo Association school in Seoul, Korea in
1980 while assigned as the Commanding Officer of
the elite Korean Service Corps. He participated
in many international tournaments during the
1970's and 1980's. In 1965 he won first place in
Sparring at the first East Coast Championship
and this accomplished earned him recognition in
Black Belt Magazine. In 1966 he won the
title of American Champion after competing in
several tournaments in Seoul, Korea and the
Demilitarized Zone. He also trained hundreds of
Korean and Vietnamese soldiers during the 1960's
and 1970's. He is credited with developing and implimenting
the World Taekwondo Federation tournament rules
in the early 1980's. In 1989, after completing a
lengthy qualifications course and thesis on the
martial art of Taekwondo, he was designated an
International Master Instructor of the Art and
Science of Taekwondo by the Federation. In 1984
he was certified as an International referee,
and that same year, he was the only American to
be selected to serve on the Taekwondo Evaluation
Board of the WTF during the 1988 Summer Olympic
Games in Seoul Korea. He currently serves as a
National Advisor for the ATA and the Ambassador
For Government Affairs, personally designated
by the President and founder of the ATA and
WTTU (World Traditional Taekwondo Union),
Eternal Grand Master H.U. Lee. He has extensive
self defense and martial arts experience with
black belts in four other systems. He is a
motivational speaker with Success Motivation
Institute (SMI) providing his students, small to
medium sized businesses, and individuals
training in personal and professional
development. During the 1980's he was the U.S.
Army's representitive to the U.S.Congress
responsible for anti-terrorism training given to
members of both houses of the Congress prior to
their departure on overseas visits. He was the
Chief the U.S Army's Physical Fitness Training
Department responsible for the first major
improvement in the U.S. Army's tarining program
and test known as the APRT in 1980. He holds a
Master of Science Degree in Management /
Education from the University of Southern
California, and a Bachelors Degree from the
University of Tampa, in Tampa Florida. He is
the Owner and Chief Instructor for Martial Arts
and Taekwondo at his own Martial Arts School in
Manassas, VA, Wargo's Martial Arts, U.S.A.
incorporated. Currently, he is a designated
Special Advisor to the CJCS, and trains
individuals, students, and businesses in SongAhm
Taekwondo, Specialty Martial Arts Classes, and
Personal and Professional Effectiveness.
